OpenAI announced ChatGPT for Financial Services on September 10, 2026. The tailored ChatGPT Work experience combines built-in financial datasets with GPT-6 Astra reasoning to support research, financial modeling, and client-ready materials. OpenAI News says the initial focus is investment banking and equity research.

The product was developed with design partners Morgan Stanley and Evercore, whose feedback helped identify data access and artifact creation as key workflow problems. Rather than requiring teams to negotiate separate contracts or build connectors, the workspace includes data from Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase, hosted and indexed on OpenAI’s infrastructure.

Why it matters for AI builders

For teams building finance-focused agents, the important shift is the combination of model reasoning and curated domain data in one managed environment. The included sources cover areas such as earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals, private companies, funding, investors, and acquisitions.

The system also adds granular citations. Users can trace a figure or claim to the relevant table or passage, including the evidence behind an adjusted EBITDA analysis. That could make model-assisted research easier to review, challenge, and incorporate into regulated workflows than outputs without visible sourcing.

Firms can centrally manage access and data connections through ChatGPT’s enterprise security and governance controls. OpenAI says newer models will become available in the product as they are released, while its work with financial institutions will continue to guide post-training, product improvements, and expansion into additional financial-services categories.
