ChatGPT Ads Reaches $1 Billion Run Rate as OpenAI Expands Global Access
OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads has reached a $1 billion annualized run rate and is opening self-service buying across new regions.

OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads has surpassed a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate less than 200 days after launch. In an OpenAI News update dated August 31, 2026, the company said tens of thousands of advertisers are now using the platform.
Starting later on August 31, advertisers can buy campaigns directly through Ads Manager in India, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. ChatGPT Ads are already available in more than 40 countries, with self-service access designed to broaden participation beyond large brands and managed campaigns.
For AI builders, the move signals that conversational interfaces are becoming a serious commercial channel. OpenAI says ads can use the context of a current conversation—and, depending on location and user settings, broader ChatGPT activity—to match promotions with what someone is researching. The company also says ads remain labeled and separate from answers, do not affect ChatGPT’s responses, and do not give advertisers access to private conversations.
A growing developer ecosystem
The advertising stack now includes CPC and outcome-optimized bidding, product feeds, geographic and platform targeting, custom audiences, Pixel, and Conversions API. OpenAI says its ecosystem has grown beyond 50 technology and measurement partners, while small and medium-sized businesses now represent a material share of the business.
The company cited an ecommerce advertiser that generated a 3x return on ad spend over 28 days, and a technology partner that reported more than 80% of ad-driven ChatGPT traffic came from new customers. OpenAI plans to add more markets, formats, objectives, buying methods, and measurement tools—potentially creating new integration opportunities for agencies and AI product teams.
